Third Grade
Language Arts
Objectives/Outcomes
In Reading, third-grade students build on comprehension and critical thinking while expanding literary skills through group activities and discussions.
During English, students review and build their understanding of the parts of speech and introduced to:
- Nouns-possessive
- Verbs-helping and future tense
- Pronouns-subject, object, and passive
- Adjectives: articles
- Adverb Prepositions
Projects
Writing game instructions, a friendly letter with a personal narrative, a persuasive essay, and realistic fiction. They will also do a book report, a sound poem, a research report, a compare and contrast essay, and a book character project.
Arithmetic
Objectives/Outcomes
Students will continue to deepen their understanding of place value by applying it to addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and decimals. They will strengthen their knowledge of division, fractions, geometry, and measurement.
Social Studies
Objectives/Outcomes
In third grade, students learn about the development of the United States of America by studying its development from the early days to its becoming an industrious world power. They will create charts, graphs, maps, illustrations, and the richness of the text will enhance each lesson.
Projects
In this subject area, students will create a boat, a President's book, and a book on the fifty states.
Science
Objectives/Outcomes
Third-graders gain an understanding of science through three different disciplines.
- They will learn about rocks, minerals, soil, weather, and the solar system in Earth Science.
- In Life Science, they discover animals are cold or warm-blooded, they learn about plants, ecosystems, cells, tissues, organs, and human skin.
- Physical Science studies motion, sound, properties of matter, and the changing states of matter.
Projects
Students will plant a personal garden, do a solar system project, and (?-Lava lams)
Bible
Objectives/Outcomes
Third-grade themes include sin and salvation, purity, the life of Christ, willingness, friendships, observing authorities, cooperation, dedication, and faithfulness. These will be learned through the lives of Cain, Abel, Seth, Lot's wife, Korah, Elijah, Job, Lazarus, Peter, Philip, Paul, Jesus, and his coworkers.
